General introduction to Nara Saho College
Nara Saho College has a two-year curriculum that provides professional knowledge in different fields and helps to develop individuality. Since its founding in 1931, we have developed human resources so that our graduates can use their expert knowledge and skills to contribute to society. The College has two departments and one major course, and graduates can acquire professional accreditation as care workers, dietitians, childcare workers, and kindergarten teachers. In addition, the College offers a course geared to today's business world, which teaches information processing and culture. On campus, our educational facilities include a well-stocked library, gymnasium, center for computing and media studies, center for lifelong learning, student support center, cafeteria, college farm, and biotope space. The College is surrounded by nature and traditional Japanese culture. Our college emphasizes education with small class sizes, which encourages the development of close relationships between the college staff and students.
Outline of the Departments and Courses
Department of Life Vista
(to be established in 2009)
In the Department of Life Vista, students will be able to study various fields that support life and plot the future. The Department offers the following three courses:
Living and Well-being: This course will qualify care workers.
Dietary Science: This course will certify dietitians.
Business Career: This course will develop a wide range of business management skills and information-oriented office operation skills.
Department of Childcare and Education
Graduates of this department can work as licensed kindergarten teachers and qualified childcare workers. Students can study individual subjects and special subjects, while learning to teach a broad range of subjects in depth, to become accomplished teachers with various capabilities. In addition, we offer studies in six fields so that students can make the best of their abilities.
Music: This will produce childcare workers and kindergarten teachers that play the piano well.
Sports: This will develop childcare workers and kindergarten teachers who can guide the physical education of children.
Nature and Play: This promotes ways to develop a culture of play in nature for children.
Mentality and Development: This studies the mental and physical development of children.
Family Support: This teaches appropriate family and community support strategies.
Career Field: This is intended for students entering the civil service.
Department of Advanced Course
Special course on welfare
This course will produce certified care workers in one year. Students enrolling in this course must already have a certificate in childcare.
Qualifications and Licenses
Students graduating from Nara Saho College receive a degree stating that they are a "junior college graduate." Students who pass prescribed courses will receive qualifications and licenses as kindergarten teachers, certified childcare workers, certified welfare care workers, and dietitians.

Nara Saho College is located in the center of Nara, which is a 1300-year-old city. The campus has an excellent panoramic view of Nara and Wakakusa Mountain. Nara was the first capital of Japan and many of the temples and shrines in Nara were constructed in the 8th century. Most are registered as National Treasures and designated as a World Cultural Heritage site in 1998, The "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara" consisting of the following eight properties: Kofuku-ji Temple, Toshodai-ji Temple, Gango-ji Temple, Kasuga Grand Shrine, Yakushi-ji Temple, Heijo Palace Ruins, and Kasuga Primeval Forest. There are about 1300 deer in Nara Park, and they constitute a Natural Monument.
Directions
It takes about 2 hours 15 minutes to travel from Tokyo Station to Kyoto Station on the JR Tokaido Shinkansen Line, and a further 40 minutes from Kyoto Station to Kintetsu Nara Station on the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. It is about 36 minutes from Kintetsu-Namba Station to Kintetsu-Nara Station on the Kintetsu-Nara Line. You can access the JR-Nara station or Kintetsu-Nara station by bus. Please take a bus from the "Nara Saho College" bus stop. If coming from JR -Nara Station, take bus No. 2. If coming from the Kintetsu -Nara Station, take a bus No. 4. Get off at the "Nara Saho College mae" bus stop.

Scholarships
The College has a special financial aid system for all international students with a student visa who are studying at their own expense. International students are exempt from \500,000 tuition per annum.
Applicants must meet the following requirements
1. Applicants must have foreign citizenship and have completed 12 years of education in a foreign country, or must have qualifications recognized by the college as the equivalent to this educational background.
2. Applicants must be capable of obtaining student status following admission under Japan's Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Law.
3. Applicants must be capable of defraying tuition and living costs from the time of their enrollment until their graduation.
